Title: Long-Awaited Reunion
Characters: Phoenix Wright, Miles Edgeworth, and eventually Mia Fey
Content: After 15 years of being ignored and several failed attempts at establishing communication, Phoenix travels to Olivine to confront his old friend directly. (This will most likely lead Edgeworth to being a jerk, and Phoenix going to Mia in tears.)
Time: Late afternoon/Early evening
Where: Olivine City - Edgeworth's Gym
Rating/Warnings: PG - Mild language for when Phoenix gets 'carried away'.

The trip itself took the better part of a whole day. Waking up early (or as early as Phoenix, who was so the opposite of a morning person could manage) he closed his gym for the day and began his journey. It would be easier if he had a Pokemon to Fly with, but since his Charmeleon wasn't set on evolving anytime soon, his bike and ferries were his main mode of transport.

It wasn't as if he was unfamiliar with the traveling: on occasion he would go visit Mia in Ecruteak so the many hour journey was one he was used to.

However, that didn't mean he was any less nervous. His 15 year search would officially end. He would find the person he lost contact with so long ago.

If their conversation over the network was any indication of how their meeting would go, Phoenix paid no mind. Maybe seeing him would make Miles remember.

Maybe..

Olivine City's Gym towered ominously against the setting sky when Phoenix approached. He put away his bike and approached the building, pushing the heavy door open to peer inside. Hopefully, Miles was still there..

"Hello? Is anybody here?"

“Pesu, stop that,” the silver haired gym leader sighed in irritation as the Houndoom decided to be playful, circling Edgeworth’s feet to bark playfully at his grocery-carrying owner.

“Yes, I know that you want to play. I’ll let Phoenix out later. You irritate me.” The Houndoom frowned (or as best as a menacing fire-dog could frown), his fangs retreating from under his lips. “Good boy.”

The man balanced his groceries precariously as he approached his gym, mind finally cleared of the stupid spiky headed man. He brought a strange unsettled feeling to his gut, and Miles wasn’t sure if he altogether liked it. At the moment, he felt nothing but loathing towards the man – why did it matter if he remembered Phoenix or not? They were friends in fourth grade.

A lot can change in fifteen years.

Upon seeing a visitor at his gym, he cleared his throat loudly. “Talk louder, I don’t think he can hear you,” he smirked arrogantly, unaware of who he was talking to.

Phoenix stepped further in, blinking around. The door slammed behind him, and he winced. Smooth, really. Nervously rubbing the back of his neck, he tried to regain his determination, especially after hearing an unseen voice.

No, he kept telling himself. He couldn't back down now. Not after all this time of trying to find out what happened to him. Not after.. everything. He had to know what happened to his friend.

"..Miles? Is that you?" He cleared his throat, took a few steps forward, and tried to make his voice louder as he squinted around the room trying to find the source of the voice. "It's me, Phoenix. Phoenix Wright, gym leader of Cinnabar Island."

“You’re walking the wrong way,” Miles huffed from behind Phoenix, though rather amused that the echoes in the gym baffled the poor challen….

…“I never gave you permission to use my first name, did I?” Miles muttered, placing his groceries down and running a hair through his silver bangs. Out of all the people…

Obviously, Phoenix didn’t know when to quit – an unfortunate trait he seemed to keep through the years.

“The gym is closed now. It’d be best that you leave.”

Phoenix turned around, a bit startled. His gym wasn't as... complicated, considering it was inside a volcano. Seeing the man approach however caused his grin to widen. He recognized the silvery hair immediately, but sort of.. faded a bit when he took in the rest of what Miles was wearing.

...What the hell is he wearing? The color of the suit confused him, until Miles spoke about the use of his first name.

"...Well, what else am I supposed to call you?" He challenged, rather innocently. He called him 'Miles' all the time in fourth grade, because friends tended to call each other by their names.

He blinked at mention of the gym being closed, and he smiled once more. "...Oh, that's fine. I am not here to challenge you or anything. I just came to talk."

“Hm. If you would like, there is a wall over there you could talk to. I’m sure it would have the patience to listen to your ramblings.” Miles’ eyes narrowed. “Edgeworth would be fine. Or nothing at all. I would actually prefer if you would go back to the hole you came from.”

Harsh? Maybe. Edgeworth wasn’t one to deal with the past.

“Now, if you would excuse me, I have more important things to attend to than to reminisce about fourth grade. That is why you came here, no? If you would like, I have that yearbook so you can reacquaint yourself with everybody on your way home.”

Phoenix stood there a moment, completely stunned. "Mi.. err.. Edgeworth." He frowned. Calling him that felt so weird to him. "..I didn't come from a..." Ugh, dammit. What is with this guy?! "Edgeworth! Wait!" He stepped forward, clenching his hands into fists and narrowing his eyes.

"This isn't about fourth grade! This is about us! We were friends at one point, dammit!" Panic was bubbling inside his chest. Phoenix had to keep Edgeworth talking, otherwise..

..he might leave again.

Not now, not after all this!

"What happened to you?! Why did you just stop coming to school? I thought you died!"

…Idealistic as always. With a strange sensation curdling in his stomach, Edgeworth let a cynical smile cross his features. How stupid, how gullible of Phoenix to believe that they could still be friends after everything. Just because they got along in fourth grade didn’t mean they would get along now – look at all the trainers constantly bickering as they grew older.

“Maybe I did die.”

Pesu growled a little at the intruder, sensing Miles’ discomfort with the situation. How dare someone go and do this to his Master! He barked as a warning to get out.

Phoenix heard that, but was hoping he heard wrong. His determination flickered in his eyes, although a frown tugged the corners of his mouth downward, before they pulled back in a scowl.

"That... that doesn't even make sense! Edgeworth.." He took another step forward, although the growl made his eyes widen. The other gym leader wasn't seriously considering unleasing his Pokemon on him.. was he?

Trying to swallow the lump that formed in his throat, Phoenix took another step forward.

"I refuse to accept that as an answer." He held out his arms, implying that he was unarmed, although he did come with Pokeballs attached to his belt. A last resort, plus he never went anywhere without them.

Couldn't be too careful.

"I don't want to fight you, Edgeworth! I want to be your friend. We both stand on the same side.. You inspired me so much when we were younger.. I can't just let that go!"

Edgeworth rolled his eyes. When would this pathetic flea realize he had been squashed and leave him alone? “You refuse to accept no? Must I force it down your throat, then? It’s quite rude to impose on someone else’s property without permission, then refuse to leave.”

The Houndoom growled again, before nuzzling into its master’s leg. “Come, Pesu. Let’s get you fed.” Edgeworth turned away from the stammering gym leader. He had no time for things such as this, or his past for that matter.

Phoenix widened his eyes as Edgeworth turned to leave. He couldn't accept this, there had to be something.. but what? What could he do? Edgeworth didn't want to talk to him, and that caused the panic to swell in his chest.

"Edgeworth, don't.." He trailed off, reaching out his hand lamely, as if it would somehow stop him and get him to turn around.

"...Fight me." Before he even realized it, the words came out of Phoenix's mouth. Deciding to go with it, his blue eyes narrowed at Edgeworth's back. "If you want me to leave so badly, let's battle. Otherwise I will stay here all night!"

It was crazy, but.. if battling Edgeworth was the only way to get him to continue talking to him, then he was going to try it.

The man raised a slim eyebrow at the other gym leader, incredulous as to why this boy man was so eager in talking to him.

Fourth grade did not equal 'best friends forever' or whatever silly notions girls went over. Maybe Phoenix really was a girl in disguise.

"I don't need to."

With that said, the man turned away and shut the door the back of the gym behind him.
